Once upon a time there was a king. This king declares all over his country: “Anyone who tells such a lie that I say it is a lie, I will give them half of my kingdom.”

There comes a shepherd and says: “Your majesty, my father had a cane and he could reach the stars in the sky with it.”

“There may be such a thing”, answers the king, “My grandfather had a pipe so long that he put one end in his mouth and lit it with the sun.”

The liar goes out puzzled. (more…)

Englend celebrate New Year… January 21, 2014

England, a major part of United Kingdom, celebrates New Year on the day of January 1, i.e. the first day of the first month of the Georgian calendar. The date was declared as the New Year in 1752. Before 1752, England celebrated its New Year on Christmas Day, i.e. 25th December. History of England celebrated different dates as New Year in different time periods. However, one common aspect is the great vigor and enthusiasm associated with New Year celebrations. People enthusiastically wait for the time of the New Year to arrive; more so because it offers them a chance to carry forward their celebration mood of Christmas ahead and higher with the New Year celebrations

Մենք քեզ շատ ենք սիրում, Գորիս

The 9 o’clock of May 26, which was so much waited for, came at last. We started for Goris with a group of fourteen. The beautiful nature was accompanying us. I can’t express that beauty with words. Our first stop was in Yeghegnadzor near the River Arpa. We had a picnic lunch there and then continued our way. Our second stop was near the Tatev Ropeway. We got on the ropeway. The scenery was beautiful. We went to Tatev Monastery and saw the cells there. It rained with hails before we got back to the ropeway.  Then we went home, packed our things and went to bed. When we woke up on the second day we went to Khndzoresk where there is a swinging bridge which connects Old Khndzoresk with the new one. We saw Mkhitar Sparapet’s grave. We walked across the swinging bridge to Old Khndzoresk where we saw caves where people lived in ancient times. On the third day we wanted to climb up a mountain and put up a flag on its peak. But the rain didn’t allow us to climb up a mountain. We came back home, took our things and left for Yerevan. We stopped on the way and clibed up a small mountain where we put up our flag and took our photos as it was May 28, the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia.
